As one of many communities along the winding path of the Blackstone River, Millbury reaps the many benefits. From the nearby bikeway which will (someday) run from Worcester to Providence, to the old mills now converted to condos/housing, to all the natural beauty that comes with a moving body of water - we get it all.
But we also sadly get the downstream effects of the accumulated industrial and residential pollution. Luckily, the modern-day communities along the river have banded together to tilt the balance of the benefits to liabilities more in our favor. Local organizations like the Blackstone River Watershed Association, working in connection with others under the umbrella of the Blackstone River Coalition, are dedicated to cleaning and preserving the river and its surroundings for all of us.
Below is a list of links to local groups working to improve the condition of the Blackstone River. If you know of more, send them my way and I'll include them here. If you'd like to help in any way, they are always looking for more volunteers.
